Almond flour provides a rich, nutty flavor and a moist crumb to the cake, while ricotta cheese adds moisture and tenderness. What do you need to make it?
Flour: A combination of almond flour and all-purpose flour is used in this recipe. Almond flour is often used in this cake for its nutty flavor and moist texture. It adds a rich and distinct almond taste to the cake. If you do not have almond flour on hand, you can blend almonds in a food processor until a fine powder forms. All-purpose flour is a common baking staple that provides structure and helps bind the cake ingredients together. It contributes to the cake’s overall texture and density.
Butter: Butter is a key fat ingredient that adds moisture, tenderness, and flavor to the cake. It also aids in creating a desirable crumb texture in the finished cake.
Sugar: Sugar serves as a sweetener and plays a crucial role in providing flavor and sweetness to the cake. It also helps with moisture retention and contributes to the cake’s overall texture and browning during baking.
Orange zest: Orange zest is the outermost layer of the orange peel and is rich in aromatic oils. It adds a vibrant and fragrant citrus aroma to the cake, enhancing its flavor profile. The zest provides a concentrated burst of orange essence that complements the other ingredients.
Ricotta cheese: Ricotta cheese is a soft and creamy cheese that adds moisture, richness, and a unique texture to the cake. Its mild flavor complements the almond and orange flavors, contributing to the overall complexity of taste.
Orange icing: Freshly squeezed orange juice adds a natural and refreshing citrus flavor to the icing. It also provides the necessary liquid for creating the icing’s consistency. Powdered sugar is finely ground sugar that dissolves easily. It’s used to sweeten the icing and create a smooth, glossy texture. The sugar also helps thicken the icing and allows it to set once applied to the cake.
